Bug in the System

I am sorry that I have not been blogging,  but   the big storm in April drowned  the land  phone/internet line for about 7 weeks….we have had two different sets of Telstra techos   trouble shooting.    Each came up with different  problems and solutions to work through. We are hoping that it is at last  fixed and  we can enjoy consistent internet without moving house.

So what have I been doing?   Screen printing ‘bug’ designs and sewing a ‘travel capsule’ of course.   I have always loved these little Jewel bugs  living  at Terrigal beach.  I  always thought they would make beautiful earrings  and was fascinated by their  iridescent  colours.  I photographed the living and  collected a few dead ones to draw later.  It is through drawing that I can familiarise myself with their shape,  patterns and colours and hopefully create a nice design to print.  I love channeling the inner bug.

Here is the drawing that I used for my screen printed design.

And here it is,  used as a motif for placemats flags, tops, maybe even earnings.  I had two stencils cut and decided to experiment….

So…with the fabric from the experiment I made this TOP (again).  Cutting line Designs OOP Pure and Simple Shell.    A bit concerned about the large pink bug,  but it does give the garment a “crawly” balance.   It was only 11c today,  the coldest day of  winter, hopefully,   and there was  no way I am wearing this outside for a photo shoot.   I apologies for the ‘dummy shot’ as this is not who or how I want to wear it.

The clothing capsule  I have been working on is a summer travel wardrobe for a trip to the USA , Mexico and Cuba in August and September,  using grey and cream as  neutrals and red as my colour.  I get these crazy ideas in my head about sewing the “perfect travel wardrobe” , a  collection where all tops match all bottoms and a jacket that can work with the lot.   This way of approaching ‘sewing’  is the results of participating in   three SWAPs  and  at least four 6pac threads  at Artisan Square.  At last,  I think I am getting the hang of planning a co-ordinated capsule ,  and hopefully sewing one as well.   And then the bugs bite and I am onto something else…

Really happy to be back posting,   and plan to blog about my  Travel capsule soon.

Love Sewing,

Cheryl ,      aka Bugalugs

PS,    Would  you believe I have also sewn 2x  linen  pants for Mr T?  Post to come soon.

So pleased to see you back on the blog “Bugalugs”. I love these amazing insects and I adore your screen print. It is amazing. I know you will really enjoying wearing that top and it will lead to lots of discussions. I especially like the way the legs work. Just super. Please make another one. And I have dreams of the perfect travel wardrobe too!
